Hey Guys,
I thought I had the brake light staying on problem
fixed but it's back again.
I've replaced the master cylinder 3 times now, installed a new brake light switch twice. I've rebled the brakes twice, went through 2 cans of brake fluid.
Has anybody else ever had this problem?
WR, The action is controled by the pedal, check and see if the pedal is fully returned. Pull it all the way back while someone is looking at the lights.
John is correct and to the point as usual. On the 65/66 "single resevoir" Master Cylinder (MC), the brake lights are controlled by a pressure switch mounted on the MC. If your pedal is not returning to zero because of a problem with the pedal assy, or due to the push rod being too long, the result will be residual pressure trapped in the system which will trigger the false brake light condition and make them come on when they shouldn't. Since it hasn't been determined whether you have the correct MC or pushrod, you really should measure the length of the rod (center of hole to push end) and post it. Also measure the size of the master-cylinder bore and depth of the push-rod hole. You need to eliminate sources of trouble. Otherwise, you may never hit on the solution.

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING.....test to see if the lights are still on, then simply remove the push rod. Observe the lights. If off you have now isolated the cause. If on more investigation needed.

Do you mean your brake lights, i.e., the ones on the rear of the bed, are staying on, or is the Brake System warning light that is on the lower left hand side of the dash?
