Well, I'm in my slacks and dress shirt/tie traveling on my way, when I feel a violent buzz from the brake pedal. Thought to myself, "that can't be good". Made it to the next light and it got worse. I barely rounded the corner and my steering was GONE. I safely made it into a parking lot and got out and Mount St. Helens was errupting. Red PS fluid running everywhere. My hydroboost line was broke from what looked like the fitting to the power steering pump. Some kind of floating coupler so it doesn't vibrate loose I assume.
Just got back from Suttle Lake towing the 5th wheel yesterday. I'm so thankful it didn't blow then, or there'd be an obituary in the paper this morning.
$106.31 and I'm on my way again. I'm sure the part is like $10, but I just didn't have the time (or spare parts vehicle) to play around with it. Also an unsavory neighborhood and I'm the little boy in slacks with his hood up that was attracting attention. If it's any indication....One guy in the appartments next door had a shirt on that read "People in Rehab are just Quitters", but that's another story.
I was driving straight and not putting (at least I don't think) a tremendous amount of pressure on the pump. Is this a common problem? I didn't hurt my brake unit did I?
i have had the pressure line from the power steering pump to the hydroboost burst once, it was chafing on the upper shock mount at the frame. new hose and fluid flush, and i was on my way. the funny part about it was that i still had steering, but it was mushy. it popped at a U-turn on a big highway, i had the wheel at full lock, i guess pressure built up enough. the fluid squirted out and over the tire, right onto the back window of a van in front of me. he never noticed...
