351M or 5.8 Differences

Hello guys I'm not sure if this the right thread to post and this being my first post.I have a 79 stepside with the 351M. I'm rebuilding a 400 for it. I would like to put a set of shorty headers on it and can't seem to locate any and I was wondering if the late model 5.8 is much different. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks Bill

Bill, first off welcome to FTE. There is a great difference in the configuration of the 5.8 Windsor and 5.8M/6.6 head ports. They will not interchange. The only company I know that makes a shorty header for the 351M/400 engine is Sanderson Headers (sandersonheaders.com) in CA. They make a set for the 4V 351 Cleveland and will include an adapter plate, a large copper gasket, which permits them to work correctly on the smaller port 2V heads. I installed a ceramic set last year on my truck and am pleased with the results. Check out my gallery unders "Headers 101" and you can see what they look like. If you have any questions about the send me a PM and I will be happy to help you out. Gary

I run a set of Sanderson FC-3's on my 400 in my '53 F100. They are made for a 351C-4V in a F100, but they work fine on a 400 with CHI-3V heads.
