I have a 95 f150 with a 4 in rough country suspension system in it, and it has a 5.8L 351w in right now. the engine has 230,000 miles on it. it still runs good, but i want a lot more power. i was woundering if its better to bore out the block and rebuild it or is it just easier to buy a bigger engine block and build off of that. also if i do end up switching it, do i get more power from a carberator or from the fuel injected system thats on it now? can i switch to carberation if i switch out the engine? I would also like to do this engine swap for a reasonable price. any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Yes, you can get a LOT more power out of that 351. That should be a roller cam motor so it's a keeper in my book. If you are thinking rebuild, bore it 0.30 over and put at least 9:1 pistons in it with fly cuts. Then you'll have valve clearance for the bigger cam. The stock cams in these motors are really small, but there are tons of choices in the aftermarket.I like the EFI systems over carbs, driveability is just so much better. You should have no problem making 300+ horsepower with either, although that will mean bigger injectors for the EFI version.
