Yesterday in the heat (85 degrees) I put the drivers side window down and when it went back up it made a sound like it was grinding up plastic. The window stopped going up and would not go up on its own. I had my wife run the switch and I pushed the window up. I searched for other posts on the problem and found lack of use and dirty windows will cause problems. Mine are used everyday and my wife cleans them all the time. Should I just go out and get a motor and have it here when I take the door panel off or just lube the track with silicone as others have stated to do and see if that helps. Thanks.
If you are describing the same problem I had with my mustang window motor . All you have to do is take your door panel off unbolt your window motor ( 3 bolts ) take the cover off ( 3 bolts ) , go to local auto part store and buy the replacement pucks . clean out the housing , apply some fresh grease place the pucks between the fingers , and reassemble motor housing.
Over time these pucks break down from normal use .
I replaced my drivers side last year and noticed my passenger side is starting to act up now. Mine just kept getting slower and slower until it started stopping half way up and with some coaxing I could get it to go up. Tore into the door in hopes of a repair. Found motor was full of rust and about to fall apart. installed new motor and getting ready to do the other side before it quits. There have been some post lately about how to repair the motor. For me I would just as
soon install a new one and not worry about it for several more years. JMO
You can search on the repairs and weigh it out yourself. What pete98cobra said my work. I don't think that would have fixed mine. I will look at the other before I buy a new one and see.
I put my passenger side power window up yesterday and it pulled the weather stripping that runs along the bottom completely up off the door. Anyone had this one?
We have a 2004 F150 supercrew and the driverside window came off the tracking about 2 months ago, we had that fixed and now the passenger side window , same thing... whats next the backrow windows too... Anybody else with the same problem? Perhaps Ford needs to become aware of this, before warrenty runs out?
Just had the same problem with my 99SD on the pass side . Window would work and then stop ! Thought I had a connection problem. Pulled off the door panel and pulled the motor and it was rusty!! Had a dead spot in the armature! If it stopped there would not start again. Went to my local auto parts store and got a rebuilt for $54 ! Works like a charm now! But I'll bet my drivers side is next!
