OK, if I disconnect the wires going to the EGR, then I can idle my ’06 6.0L for long periods of time (3 – 4 hours) without high idle and with no ill effects. True or false.
good question!!, I want the same answer !! I just can't imagine that this particular Diesel engine has issues with long idle times, it is my opinion that if you use known good fuel, with good additives, and change your oil often... you can let it idle all you want!! On every fill up I use 16oz. of Diesel Kleen, 16oz. of Marvel Mystery Oil, and 16oz. of Sea Foam...I change my engine oil and Filter every 2500 miles, I use 12qts. Rotella Synthetic 5W-40, 1qt. Marvel Mystery Oil, 16oz. of Lucas Synthetic Oil stabilizer, thats 13.5 qts. total for proper refill amount. I change the Air and Fuel filters every 5000 miles...these intervals assure me that I can run my truck, idle for whenever I want and have no problems!!!!
I believe the "don't idle for long periods" has to do with "wet stacking" and nothing to do with the EGR.
Not enough velocity through valves at idle; therefore, builds up gunk. I think it was an issue for the 7.3 too but I really don't remember for sure since I never owned a 7.3.
