Red face Blue Dot Install

Hey All--
I suffered the loss of a taillight recently (long story) and have picked up a new pair. The old ones were blue dot and I liked the look, but the new ones didn't come with the dots installed.
Does anybody know how to put a hole in a glass taillight lense without breaking it? I tried a small drill bit, but just got smoke.

Any help would be VERY appreciated!

A diamond core bit is what you need. mirror shops use them to put holes in glass. You could also use a brass tube of the right size with valve grinding compound in a drill press: Use modeling clay to form a dam around the drill point and put a drop of valve grinding compound in the center. Mount the tube in the drill press and set for the slowest speed. add a couple drops of water to the compound to form a slurry and lower the drill press. Use a very light pressure and add a couple drops more water whenever the compound starts to dry out. Raise the tube up regularly to allow the grinding compound slurry to fill under the tube. Don't try to rush it by applying pressure, it will only defeat the process.

Or simply cover it with duct tape with a round hole cut out of it, and sandblast right through in about a minute, no muss,no fuss. Most machine/engine shops have blast cabinets if you don't own one.

Sell the stock ones on Ebay and buy new ones with the blue dot already installed...much easier.

I'm modifying an old set of 46 Chrysler Town and Country taillight housings to fit the fenders of my 49. The housing had a reflector at the top that is the perfect size for blue dots...woohoo
Now all I have to do is fabricate some bulb holders and I can mount these babies on my truck

I have a 60 F100 and its got the round tail lights. I bought a pr of 57-58 front clear turn lenses and blue dotted them, noe to install a Red led bulb and install the clear lenses for that new old look

I would say sell the old ones and get a set of lenses with the blue dots already in them
