4WD Without Locking The Hubs

Can I put my transfer case in low without locking the hubs and have 2WD low range for pulling a boat up steep boat ramps? Don't like to use 4WD on the paved ramps, but like the extra pulling power of low range.

Yes, you can (assuming you have manual locking hubs). You need to use "2L" judiciously, you're putting roughly twice as much torque to the rear end, and it can be easier to break things. 2L can be real nice for just the kind of thing you're talking about.

its accually good for your 4wd system (TC/DC/ujoints), because it gets everything spinning, and keeps it from rusting... I think I saw somewhere that its reccemended maintance, but I dont know

I've done it, for "increased power"... Havent broken anything yet, and DAMN can you get up to 35 quick in 2l... Tires screaming all the way to it

Yeah, be carefull... My U joints are pretty bad, after one more of theese stunts, it may be the end of them... BUT you're not fooling around, just pulling... Should be fine for short periods of use
