Well, I have the entire dash out of my truck, to replace the wiring harness, so I figured I'd check out the heater core, too. It showed some signs of a slight leak so I'm going to replace it. When looking for a replacement, I have 2 options....standard and high output heater. How do I tell which one I have and are they interchangeable? Can I use a high output core in my truck if it had a standard one?
The high output core is a larger version of the same 'ol thing.
I swapped heater housings to a high output unit in my 460 truck out of need for a heater core late one Saturday night and my buddy just happened tohave scrapped a truck with a brand high output core in it... They are not directly swappable, using a high output core requires swapping the plenum it sits in. And even at -40, it's not really necessary... it will cook you out to the point of needing the windows open...
