Hey guys,
Looking for a little advise for a rookie mechanic. I have a 98 Ford F-150. I live in Southeast Texas and it gets rather hot in the summer months. First I could not get my clutch to engage and troubleshot the problem with a little help. So my problem is now trying to get to come out of my vents instead it comes out the dash where my defrost should go. There must be some type of valve or damper or it could be an electrical problem keeping the air from redirecting. If anyone has had the problem or has any advise I would greatly appreciate the help. Thank you.
Ricky
there are two vacuum cylinders that direct the air thru the heater/ air conditioner. the main cylinder directs the air up to the defrost, or down toward the floor vents. the second cylinder directs from the floor to dash panel. if the main cylinder filas or gets no vacuum, it fails toward the defrost fents. i thinkif you lay on the driver side floor and look above the gas pedal up toward the radiator i think you can see the cylinder.----- the vacuum supply comes from the intake manifold, and runs to the passenger side of the firewall, behind the battery. look for a 1/8 inch plalstic hose that goes thru the firewall in this area. there is a good chance the hose is cracked, or TEE fitting is cracked, etc. you can suck on the tube thru the dash and see if it opens the cylinder.
Steve,
I really appreciate the advise. I checked it all out today and found the tube(s) were all dry rotted. I cut them back and replaced them temp but for now my a/c comes through the vent and it is cooler in SETexas. If they pull out I am sure I could get some vaccum hose and splice them back together. Just wanted to say thank you for saving myself time and money. Thank you. Ricky
