what fan combo provides the best stop and go cooling for my '64 ranchero, v8 engine, new add on 134 freon a/c?
i have a new 2 rows of fins radiator, fan shroud, 180 thermostat with coolant recovery kit.
i've been told that the factory fan clutch and 6/7 blade fan will pull more air thru the radiator/condensor for slower traffic driving than the fixed blade 5 or 6 blade rigid fan will?
i have access to all of the above.....perfer not to install an electric fan at this point.
i have not installed the a/c; need to soon as it's getting hot and humid here in new orleans!
the 6 blade non fan clutch fan on the truck i have now draws a lot of air past about 1000 rpm, but sure does make a lot of noise on the highway! it doesn't draw too much air thru at idle.
the clutch fan would probably be better for you, seems like the pitch is bigger on them.
make sure you have a belly pan on it, they make a huge differance in cooling.
also if you look on the bottom of the doghouse lid there is a place for a seal just about on top of the rad. this seal keeps air from flowing over the rad in stead of thru it.
if it is missing, couple of guy's have used a garage door weatherstrip in its place.
Jim,
He has a Ranchero. That is why he doesn't know what a dog house or floor pan is.
I have a Econoline pickup I put an AC in. To keep it cool I installed a 2nd radiator under the bed. I hooked it up parallel with the original radiator and it has it own electric fan. That did the trick
