exhaust question
I have dual catback exhaust on my 93' f150 5.0. If i cut it off after the first cat. will it be louder? and will it give me any more performance since it woudl be more open? Thanks for help and ideas.
Do you have mufflers? Take them out but make sure the pipes go past the rear bumper or out the side. It will be nice and loud and as long as you don't hit the gas next to a officer you should be ok
when i pulled the second cat off my 96 it made quite a bit of diffrance.
i cut the factory muffler off and ran a straight pipe with the two cats in place and the truck was still very quiet. then the second cat was cut off and replaced with a section of pipe.
running straight pipe off of the single cat kindof sounded crappy, like the my muffler fell off kindof nosie. single cat with a 32 inch glasspack sounded awsome though.
if you really wanna notice a differance ditch both cats, and run true duals. if your state has no sniffer test then getting rid of both would help you out alot.

hmm thanks guys! i had no muffler just two cats im pretty sure. my truck has a body lift so with te exhaust coming out the side won't look good at all, very tacky i guess is the word. so i was thinking ofcuttign it off after te first cat and just welding on a turn down. good idea?
for inspection purposes the exhaust has to clear the body. Some places will let a truck pass as long as it exits past the cab. Just running an open exhaust doesnt neccessarily give you the best performance. We are not talking about a turbo here you actually need some back pressure. I run dynomax bullet mufflers on a few of my cars. One is a turbo 4cyl, ones a bronco,4.9l. You really need to play with where you put the muffler to make it sound good. My bronco has side exit just behind the door with no cats and its very loud. And not a good loud either. Its fine at low rpms but if you lay into it, it can get annoying. My pickup im running no cats and a regular chambered muffler and its sounds decent. very quite. The biggest difference (besides the muffler) is the length of pipe. I ran it all the way out the back on a long bed truck so that a good bit of pipe compared to a side exit on a bronco. If your determined to get a good sound I would get a bullet muffler(short glasspack) or a regular length one and have it setup so you can slip it on your exhaust pipe. then start cutting and slipping it on a few places and see how you like it. The shorter the pipe the more rasp you are going to get. The longer the pipe overall the more defined your tone will be. quiter but a much better sound if its a daily driver.
