bolt pattern wtf?

ive got a 97 f350. just got some wheels/tires from a friend. rims are 16.5 idk how wide yet. go to bolt them up, close but no go. measure and comes to 6.75 measure my old rims 6.5. i thought that 8 lugs only came in 8 x 6.5 bolt patterns. ive heard of 8 x 170mm but thought that they were on newer trucks. he said these rims came off a big old ford. whats up with this????!?!?!?!!?

The conversion for 6.75 inches is 171.45mm. now some of the 19.5's come in 8x6.75 lug pattern.

The bolt pattern was 8 x 6.5 until & including 1997. In 1999, it was changed to 8 x 170mm.

If the wheels don't fit, it seems like you have a newer set of rims. What do you mean by "big old ford"? What year?
