New 79 F150 Explorer Custom
Thanks
Brent
The Explorer Badge can also be found on Broncos, and Rancheros before or around circa 1978, but are rare.
Look in my gallery, I have a tech album with pictures of various Explorer models.
Also do a search on this site. A wealth of information awaits you.
Does it have it's hood ornament, and original stripes? Part of the Explorer trim in 1979.

As for the wiring, Check your fuse panel for burned fuses. Also check for a burned fuse link inside the engine compartment.
Also undo everything you did, and see if power comes back. etc...
You can get a basic wiring diagram for your truck in the Haynes repair manual, sold in most auto part stores.
If you want a more accurate specific diagram, original Ford Diagrams are sold on E-bay from time to time but are pricey.

make sure to pick the proper year and engine options as you check it all ou.
Good luck

Ok Guys, I am a New 1979 F150 Explorer Custom Owner (It says Explorer on it, but I thought that ended in 78?)
It is actually called a Custom Explorer. Custom being a model and Explorer being a Trim Line.
A Custom could be ordered with anything
The Explorer part consists of Upholstery, door panel trim, badging, exterior striping etc ,

I am 16 years old, and my grandpa gave me his truck.
That's great,I had to buy mine NEW ,28 years ago Tomorrow, see my gallery
I have put about 3000 in to the engine getting it to run perfect. My truck starts up faster than my dads new silverado, even in the winter it did. It is only 2wd but I plan on making it 4wd
The cost, time, and everything invloved makes it prohibitive, If you want a 4x4 ,...BUY a 4x4 ..trust me

because I am restoring it right now. But my real problem is,
I need a wiring diagram for the truck because my friend and I were in the dash trying to install a new deck and we think a fuse blew,
A common nmistake with people who DON'T Un-hook the battery.

A stereo power hook-up can be routed through the old radio plug, The meory wire can go to a power on all the time connector behind the cluster.
but the Gas gauge went with it too,
Please explain... "went with it" ?
and so did my dome light.
These should help

We're here to help.
First thing, get yourself some kind of shop manual ,it will be your best friend .
The Motorhaven CDRom manual is a great value, it also includes the original sale brochure.Like this one.

Yea I figured it out, someone must have gotten there before me because a wire was shorting so i rewired the whole thing, I rewired all the speaker wires.
I replaced the Fuse and It works PERFECT now. The only problem I have is the fact it you have to put the deck in a custom way, but my dad will help me because he used to install them in their, and I rather not pay 100 bucks to have it installed. I really enjoy doing this, my friends think im a loser.
On the note that I should just buy a 4x4 well it was my grandpa's and my dad said that if I want the truck I have to restore it, I am debating about making it 4x4 cause my uncle could do it very easily, but price is sort of point less. And does anyone know where I can order the original paint? other than from Ford, they want to charge me an arm and a leg
Do you mean a casette deck or a new CD player
Paint:
Any body shop supply paint place can mix your paint.
Paint is expensive and has been for years.
What is the color code on the door data plate
Really.... trying to transform a 4x2 into a 4x4 is a really HUGE project and shouldn't be taken lightly.
My suggestion : Do your Grampa proud with the restoration of this truck and then Enjoy the heck out of it.
Down the road some day when you see a 4x4 for sale ..buy it and enjoy it.
It is a CD Deck, I have made the cut but im lost on getting it to mount correclty like i have the cage should I mount it to anything? or what
but i checked and they say it should be a form of blue
and it is not blue
and never has been blue
its likea copper ish color
like this color

That CD installation carriage is called a DIN Mount.
If you search *CD Player Install* it should bring up a bunch of threads about what you have to do to make it fit.
