I have true duel exhaust no cats with 2 flowmasters. The tailpipe gets so hot that it melted my spare tire from 3'' away. Do I need a more restrictive muffler?
It has the stock size pipes. Not sure if it ever had cats, being a HD truck. The egr system is intact except for the tube that goes down to the exhaust pipe.
seventyseven250- While your thoughts are very appreciated I would prefer the moderators not merge my threads because personally I don't hit every thread on this site everytime I visit, or ever for that matter. I hit the ones that pertain to me. I'm trying to reach as many people that could possibly help as I can. Thank you for your concern though.
I always find it odd that i see posted here how back pressure is bad, in different threads i mean. Reason i find it odd is since my dad runs an auto repair shop and does custom exhaust. Ive seen people come in saying they want duals and such such size pipe. Like coming in with a stock 302 and saying they want 2 1/2 or 3 inch. then they later come back saying they lost all there low end. Now i assumed it was because of back pressure loss, but i do know that exhaust size does seem to have an effect on low end. We had one case of 2 1/2 duals on a stock 350 and the person used the truck for towing, they came back saying it wouldnt pull hills after the exhaust change. So dropped the pipe to 2 1/4 and it was fine. Guess just slightly confused about this so figured maybe someone could clarify
The smaller pipes do not provide back pressure, they provide increased flow velocity and scavenging at low flows, which helps boost torque at lower engine speeds. As for the heat of the exhaust, check the plugs to make sure the engine is running like it should be and that it isn't too lean or rich.

Sorry smallblock, I thought you meant an f350. As far as the plugs go I just changed what I assume were the original ones at 100,000 miles and they looked like they were in great shape. How would they look if it was running lean?
