Have been reading forums here since my first PSD and for teh first time find myself needing help that I can't find already posted. I now have a 2005 F350 Lariat CC, 4X4, 6.0 PSD, Auto, long bed with just under 21,000 miles. The truck is completely stock, I have not done any performance modifications on it. It is in the shop for the third time now, all under warranty, but it is getting old fast.
First time performance got really bad with lots of black exhaust smoke. Dealer replaced EGR, said there was a recall on it. Second time (3 days later), similar problem really bad performance hesitating, black smoke, wouldn't go over 40 MPH on the interstate. Dealer said the computer was giving EGR codes, but it looks like a turbo problem. Replaced the turbo. Third time (about a month later) performance was weak, smoke started the day before and this time the coolant temperature shot up in less in less than a minute, no time to do anything but pull over, shut it down and wait for a tow. The dealer says it is head gasket this time and will be down for at least 10 business days.
Could all of these events be connected? Should it take 10 days to replace a heads gasket? Did I possibly get one of the bad ones I read about? Is there anything else I need to be concerned with as a result of the head gasket failing? I'll save the venting for the service manager, but would appreciate any feed back you all can offer.
If you plan on playing the lemon card and getting a buy back in order, I suggest doing so asap. State laws vary and they sometimes limit the amount of time you have to file a claim. So find out what the laws are and get the ball rolling if need be.
Sorry to see your having problems. Well I just went through the lemon law process in TN. This is how it went. First look up the law for your state under Google so you have an idea about the laws. Second you need to keep a record of everything, dates, times, names. Also check your invoices you get from the dealer, for example they told me they did a test drive to check on the problem i was having. Well on the invoice mileage in and out were the same. You need to get with the service manager and bug the living day lights out of him. Tell him you want a FORD Engineer to look at the vehicle, obviously the mechanic is unable to diagnos your problem. Ford has a customer service number, you need to call it and tell the person on the phone your problem's and you want a replacement. FORD also has an agreement with BBB, they have a web site, you need to fill out the complaint form. This will show Ford that your are not messing around. Trust me on this they will continue to tell you they can fix your truck over and over to avoid a replacment. It takes some time but the BBB will help you with every step.
