I have a 67 f100 shordbed with a 75 351w in it. the guy that put the motor in it before i bought it beat down 2 of the header pipes on the drivers side (the back 2 cylinders) because of clearance problems with the steering box. I've talked to the tech lines of hedman, dynomax, and sanderson headers and they dont have a header application for my truck. should i just start buying headers and hope that they fit? can anyone help! thanks in advance.
There is a big difference. The frame rails are closer together on the 67-72 trucks than they are on the 73-79 trucks. The 351W was never, to my knowledge, offered in the 67-72 trucks, so you're not going to find anybody selling off-the-shelf headers for that app. You might be able to get 73-79 headers to fit with some modification, but I have no idea.
You could always just ditch that 351W and drop in a 390, 428 or some other FE. You'd get a ton more torque and you could use off-the-shelf headers.
I'm installing a 460c.i. in my 71 f-100. Before I started I measured
the frame on mine and the frame on a 77 f-100 and my frame was wider. Purchase headers for a 73-79 with that motor. 460c.i.
When did Ford start offering the 302 in these trucks again? I think it was at least in the 70-72s, so headers for a 302 from that time should work with your 351w. Or i could be wrong.
I'm kinda straying off course here, but when i put the 400 in my 70, i used the factory towers off a 79 and everything bolted right up, which I don't believe would work if the frame were narrower. Who knows this for sure? I guess I could go find some trucks to measure, but surely someone actually has done it.
