I have no turn signals or brake lights on my trailer. Just running lights. I am not getting any power to the pig tail that comes from the factory plug-in for all rear lights on the truck. Just truck lights and running lights for trailer. I am thinking of splicing the turn signal wires going to the truck turn signals. Is this the best way to go? and what is the best connectors?

Replace the bad fuse (maybe two) or the Trailer Turn Relays.
Well the Left and the Right Turn are in the "Engine Compartment Fuse Box".
Both should be 10 Amp Fuses.
The Relays IF YOU HAVE THEM are in a box beside the Engine Compartment Fuse Box.
Note that there may be a two relay box there with the Battery Charge and backup lamp relays in it, if you have the turn relays it will have more than the two relays.
As subford sez there are 2 relays, your owners manual might even tell you where they are.
Yours is probably wired the same as a 97 Explorer & if thats the case the right turn&stop relay & the left turn & stop relay are under the hood drivers side in auxiliary relay box 1.
Confusing thing is the EVTM shows fuse 6 in one place & fuse 7 in another for the relays.
Take a look in your owners manual & see which fuse the "trailer tow relays" are wired to,
