You need a tail-light socket?
New or used.
I'm going to the Wreckers Tomorrow or Monday

There is a 72 and a 69 there.
anything else?

bad news on the replacement speaker from LMC truck- it doesn't fit. i kind of knew it wouldn't, but figured i'd give them the benefit of the doubt.

it's too large/deep to fit into the clamp setup. i think it can be 'rigged', but that's not what i had intended.

i'm probably going to use it, and just drop a bolt/washer through the top of my dash to hold it in place. at least that will require less modification that cutting the door panels...

Just take your old speaker out, and take it down to radio shack and find one that matches. I did that and it was done and over with in short order.
I don't recall the exact dimensions for those speakers, but 6 x 9 comes to mind.

You found a Radio Shack speaker that fit in the clamp? It ain't a 6x9, something smaller, I'll measure my spare when I get home.

Ok, looking at the stock speaker the basic size is 5x7 but the mounting face is extended with squared-up corners. So it looks more like a rectangle with curved ends to fully cover the grille opening in the dash. You can't use any 5x7 without seeing some daylight around the corners. TomThrall is right though, a 6x9 will cover the grille opening but how do you attach it without drilling new holes? I've done some measurements to fab a new clamp for a 6x9 speaker that wrapped over the magnet but had some reservations. First, the speaker can't be too deep or else it hits the radio. Second, even with a HD clamp, there are only two attaching points, a flimsy tang and slot on one side and a small sheet metal screw on the other. That's when I decided to forget it and just put some nice speakers in some boxes.

although a radio shack speaker may fit, it's just a normal speaker- meaning it's mono. any modern radio is stereo, which is why i was attracted to the LMC speaker. it's "dual voice coil", meaning it has inputs for both channels- i.e., stereo, using only one speaker.

if you were using the stock am radio, a mono speaker would be just fine.

You’re right rusty, I was kinda talking generically on the size that would work. My original plan was to mount a 6x9 dual voice coil woofer in the dash and some small remotes elsewhere.

BBB- that sounds like a good plan.
i'm probably going to hook this speaker up over the weekend. will let you know how it sounds.

from the looks of it, it should provide decent low end. your idea of remote satellites would take care of any problems encountered with the high end having to come through the dashboard...

LonnieD,

A capacitor IS a condensor and vice/versa. The symptom of low volume would not be caused by a bad, or even missing, condensor/capacitor. The purpose of the capacitor/condensor is to filter out ignition noise. If you do not have any ignition noise(popping sounds that track with engine RPM) in the radio, I would not worry about the condensor. If you do have ignition noise, the best solution is to go somewhere like Radio Shack and get a "filter kit". This usually includes a large capacitor and sometimes a coil (inductor) to effectively filter out the noise. Works a lot better than the original condensor. The low volume has to be low output from the radio amplifier or bad speaker. As suggested in one of the other posts, the best way to determine which is to substitute one, then the other. Bad speaker, obvious solution. Bad/low output from the radio is probably a bad power amp transistor. If it is the radio, let me know and I will go through the process of fixing it.(Pretty easy and relatively cheap) Good luck with it, hopefully a new speaker will fix it.

yeah, me's thinks I'll just get a couple 'O speakers and bolt 'em to da door. Kids think I'm weird about wanting to keep the stock AM but hey I only listen to AM talk on the way to work anyways.... Some day maybe mount a better one under da dash... just want to feel with getting my big paws under that dash too many times.. man small area. Anyway, I can always talk to myself on the way to work... If I get these damn! Taillights, steering slop, paint rubbed-out, new plates, and all the other goodies worked-out I'll be ready to go!

Wish me well!!

Whoops- try again....

I want to move the speaker from my 67 parts truck to my 67 good truck and use the stock AM radio from the parts truck.

Would I go through the glove box to remove the speaker or is there another way?
