l There is egr flow at idle(sometimes up to 30%) the new reflash shuts off this flow after 5 minutes of idle time(the 6.0 doesnt get along with idle time)
Be more specific please? What flash changed the designed EGR strategy from opening exclusively at cruising speeds to opening up to 30% at idle? My 04 EGR valve does not open up to 30% during idle. My truck has NO NEW reflash to shut off EGR flow after 5 minutes of idle time.
Please share what 2 flashes you are referring too so I can be damn sure to not ever receive them.
it isnt well known, but there has been 15-20 reflashes since the 6.0 has been introduced, including one that started the egr flow(cant remember which one it was,but I first saw it when I was checking one with wds and saw egr duty cycle 18% at idle.Called hotline, was told to disregard because previous reflash commanded it.)It doesnt have to be a recall to have one flashed, it could be running changes in programming strategy. Some techs would reflash one just to practice with the wds(mostly new techs) The one that shuts off egr after 5 minutes idle time is the voluntary emissions recall.I do recommend that one, the 6.0 does not work well with too much egr at idle. That will eliminate a lot of egr coking problems.

Sorry for the large looking response. Good information to know Valoney thanks!
My 04 (Dec 03 engine build date) was opening EGR at idle from day 1 when it was new. Observed same with scan tool. It also at that time had the EGR and ICP quiet idle strategy (not pilot injection). First flash killed the quiet idle but cured the 'romps.' It still opened the EGR at idle as observed with AutoXray scan tool and AutoEnginuity Scan tool software. Later when the EBP was failing (the first of two different times) it started getting very quiet at idle and would really start to stumble with the EGR valve open at idle while waiting on traffic lights, etc. Touch the throttle and you could watch the valve be commanded closed and smooth out. EBP was replaced under warranty which corrected problem.
At some point it got the flash described by vloney that would turn off EGR at idle if you idled long enough; but, it still had EGR during normal short intervals of idle.
My 04 had the EGR valve replaced twiced, and the EBP sensor replaced twice; none of them at the same time with each other.
I always used diesel fuel additive and am not one to drive light footed and the thing still packed up with soot......
