rough paint

hello i sprayed primer on the bottom of my cab the other day after i body fillered and sanded mainly just for practice as no bodys ever going to see it but owell. over all it turned out great im happy there where just a couple of runs and sags but pretty good for a complete newbie. the primer turned out kinda rough maybe "orange peel" and i ve tried to adjust the gun which is a cheapo from walmart but it doesn't do any good.is the roughness from the cheap gun, cheap paint, not reduced enogh, gun adjusted wrong, lack of any ideal what im doing,or is it spose to be that way. i would really apreciate any help.

gday mate this could be caused from many things,
if it is a primer filler this will cause it to have a high film build, i would say you will need to thin the material out just a little more and allow more time between coats for a start and put the material on a little lighter, just dont pump it on thick and you should be right....
ps runs are bad so try to avoid them at all costs

Sounds like the primer was mixed a little thick. Most common laquer primers are thinned 50/50 with thinner; in a 1 quart gun,mix 1 pint or half the cup full,of primer to 1 pint,or the rest of the cup with thinner. With most guns, you'll need 40 pounds of pressure at the gun.Play around with the small ****,or pattern adjustment, until the spray is about as wide as the palm of your hand about 6'' out from the head. This should be a good starting point, then you can adjust to suit yourself. You should be able to remove the runs with 150 or 200 grit sandpaper easily.Fully cured primer sands well with very little effort,so be carefull or you'll take off too much.Hope this helps.
