I posted this in the carb forum, but haven't had any takers yet.

I recently acquired a 2150; actually I acquired the entire truck...a '79 F150, 351M, C6. I'd like to use the carb off of it because it is a stock original, meaning it is a '79 model carb. My truck (also a '79) has a 2150 off of a '77 truck. Something done by the PO. Anyway, I started rebuilding it and noticed that it has the fixed high-speed air bleed instead of the variable high-speed air bleed that my '77 has. From what I've read so far, I would be better off with the variable air bleed venturi cluster. I really wanted to have a '79 model carb on my '79 truck, call me ****. What would some of you do if given the choice? The newer carb also has the hot idle compensator on top of the airhorn that my '77 carb does not and it has an electric assist choke that I really want to use.
I'm not exactly savvy in the differences between fixed and variable air bleed systems. I could really use the pros and cons between the two. Something else to consider is that I have a high-pitched whistle created by a worn throttle shaft on my '77 carb that I was hoping to eliminate by switching to the '79 carb. Just another reason I really want to make the change.

 

This is more of a carb (fuel delivery) question than a 73-79 Truck Question.

Do you have the numbers off this carb?

I would like to check it out.
