yes, you are right, but it was very poor judgement, because those few poorly chosen words, lasting less than 2 seconds, destroyed years of hard work, and ruined their music careers in the US.
I wont hear them again. I guess the part that surprises me the most is the terrible judgement they used. "Here's your sign"
There is no way they couldnt have known it would not go over well with anyone but europe.
Think about going on the radio or tv station and telling everyon how terrible the company is that you work for. Youd get fired, and you should expect no less.

i just got the the chicks new c.d. and it is good!!! all of you are right they dont get much play time any more but with the new c.d. out, the radio stations here have been playing them a bit more!! i like the chicks always have always will even if they thought bush was the best thing since milk, I DONT CARE HOW THEY FEEL about bush and his time as president. but i know how i feel about it and I CANT WAIT UNTIL HE IS GONE, then we can see what other joker fills the office!!!
I enjoyed the show. I can't take most awards shows but the CMA's are fun. I'm sure the stars have egos but, to me, it doesn't come across poorlyor blatantly on the show.
The political commentary was in jest, I don't believe there's a need for a political lesson from anyone.
i just think the chicks are idiots....they have a right to say whatever they want to, but after being silent for 2 years or whatever, they come out of the blue talking smack about toby keith and reba mcintire and expect to sell country albums?
i dont see any other country artists taking cheap shots at one another
Y'all are right, the Dixie Chicks have the right to say anything they want... if they want to ruin their career. I myself dont support them and change the channel when they come on (which is rare).
They're stupid for what they say, period. They have the right, but there's some things they should realize before they pop off stupid comments, like the reprocussions.
That being said, am I the only one who thought all the veterans who came in when Big and Rich did "The 8th of November" was really kickass?

Didn't get a chance to see the show, but just downloaded the video...
gave me chills. It makes me glad to see that those men are being honored by artists that weren't even alive during the Vietnam era. (At least, I don't think Bog and Rich are that old).
As far as the Chicks, who really cares? There is a market for them in the music industry, just not much left for them in country music. I have always thought that they were pretty good musicians, just too political for their own good. I say let it go, and enjoy country music.
I didn't see the show, except the Reba statement (just happened to click in at the precise time (how about that?)) and the Buck Owens tribute.
I really don't like awards shows. Like the Buck tribute for instance. The announcer reads off the list of musicians making sure to mention the groups that the Blink 182 drummer was affiliated with, but fails to mention that Chris Hillman was the lead singer of The Desert Rose Band (a great country group that had a string of hits in the late '80s including a remake of "Hello Trouble" the Buck Owens' standard.) Who writes this stuff? Sure he was in the Byrds. But that was nearly 40 years ago dude!
Glad Brad Paisley won. Wish he'd won more. Missed the Big & Rich thing. Sounds like it was memorable.
I heard that Natalie Mayne(sp), along with all the other hoopla, stated that the DC might not even consider themselves a country act anymore after this album. This due to the back-lash from country fans and radio about the Bush statements. All I can say is "Don't bite the hand that feeds you." There was a country artist from Canada a few years back that wasn't as big a star as the DC, a certain woman by the name of KD Lang. She angered the beef producers and beef eaters {and even some cows I think} by saying hamburgers were bad, etc. and thumbed her nose at C&W and put out a pop album. (She also came out of the closet about that same time.) The pop album did pretty well. But that was it. I haven't heard of her since. If you think the country music scene is pretty cut-throat, check out the pop music business. You can have a monster hit record, sell tons of copies. Go mega-platinum and two years later have people saying "Who was it that did that something a rother song about the girl?"
In country there's always the chance an artist might get another chance. How about John Anderson, George Jones, and Kenny Rogers. 3 guys that were all but gone and each of them had resurrected careers (at least for a while).
And lastly...
My favorite moment from an awards show was when Alan Jackson stopped singing "Pop a Top" and sung George Jones' "Choices". That was one worth seeing.
