Question Instrument Illumination Problem

I recently installed a new stereo in my 2000 7.3L excursion. While doing this I screwed up and touched the "dimmer" wire and "illumination" wire together. The "dimmer" wire is a ground and the "illumination" wire goes back to the dimmer module. Since i did this my Insturment cluster as well as all my switches will not light, everything else works. I replaced the headlight/dimmer module today but that did not work. I checked all the fuses and traced all the wires back to that module. Anyone have a idea of where I should go from here the schematic, talks about a "generic electronic module" that is before the headlight switch but everything else on that moduel and the headlight switch work jus fine. Please Help.
