I've finally decided on a Super Duty. I'm just curious if there are some things specifically I should look for or ask about when looking? I've found several I'm interested, most have fairly high miles which worries me. How long does a well maintained super duty gas engine generally last?
Heres more specifics on what i'm looking for... 4x4, gas, auto, either supercab or crew.. I think thats it. Maybe by telling you guys that it will help bring up better q's.
I am glad I got the power rear slider and I wish I got the moon-roof.
Still on the fence if I should have gotten the reverse sensors.
I have a an 05 F250 v10 Lariat FX4 4*4 Crew Cab with the camper package, advanced security group (now standard) LSD, the BFG AT tires, some towing option with the brake controller, 411s ( I do not tow that much if I did I would bet 430s).
I think my truck is perfect well except no moon-roof and I want to put a navi system in!
I would look for a crew cab with low miles and few or no modifications such as a lift kit.
A gently used truck is what you want, with seats and interior in good shape, bed
not too well worn, no fifth wheel hitch and clean exterior.
I have an 05 F-350 regular cab XLT with the V10 and a 6 speed manual. The V10 is a good motor and should give you at least 200k miles without a whole lot of problems. I change the oil every 3k and the tranny fluid every 25k.
If at all possible...stick with the 2002 or newer SD. The reason I say this...is because prior to that year the SD either had a D50 front axle ('99- early '01) and did not have the PI heads in the engine ('99-early '00). But 2002+ have both the PI heads and the D60 axle.
Try to find a SD with the LS rear with 4.10s at a minimum if you plan to tow anything over 6000lbs. The gas engines (5.4L and V10) will last long into the 200k, but the V10 might get you more due to less stress on the components .vs the 5.4L. Both get about the same mpg. Both are GREAT engines!
Before buying the Used SD, make sure to get an Oasis Report from your local friendly FORD dealer. This gives the warranty and TSB history on the SD. I would also highly recommend a CarFax report. Just for peace of mind.
Good luck finding a SD...now is a good time for the buyer with gas prices and all.

Hey Bagger,I just ordered a 2007 superduty,& got the reverse sensors. We have them in our 2004 escape limited & the wife really loves it.It really lets her know when she could give it more gas to smash whats behind her I ordered a lariat 4x4 supercab with a 8ft.box,so I think it's almost a must for backing that monster up.
