can anyone who has trophied give advice for my first car show,
how to keep the truck from getting handled/scratched,
how to choose a show where i will have a chance at being competitive, what class will a 68 ranger show in, -- (i plan to attend a local open show first),
do many restored 68's show at pigeon forge??
do the 67-72 fords get any attention at shows,
Swampystumps, I have been to many shows, and have a modified 65' Mustang that has recieved a Boyd Coddington Pro Pick, a custom rodder Pick and a Popular Hotrodding feature in addition to other magazines. The car has finished in the top 5 of the ISCA, numerous Best of show awards, best paint, best engine, interior, engineering and others. It was also the best of show car at the Ford World Challenge in St.Louis 2 years ago. All of this, and i can go to a small town car show and get a second place!! I am not trying to toot my own horn here, but I am trying to tell you that i have a very accomplished show car, and i can still get the shaft. Do not go to shows for the trophies, no matter how nice your truck is, these things will happen, and you will only end up pissed. Go to the show to have fun. Enjoy the other people and especially those who really admire your truck. Get some sun, check out the babes, and drink a cold one. If you get a trophy fine, if not, don't sweat it. You have to judge the judge. If the guy judging my car has never produced anything more than a hack himself, then why get upset when you get beat buy his buddies half baked chevy or something. Believe me, showing for a $2 trophy is not worth it. If you really want trophies, I have several boxes of them in the corner of my basement you can have for free. I suppose to be cool here, I should answer your actual question. Cleanliness is the key. Get things CLEAN, and be objective. If you are out gunned, accept it, and remember to judge the judges. Have fun, and yes 68'trucks do well, especially when i am the judge. FOMOGO
I concur with Fomogo.
Wayyyyyyyy to many politics in Car shows.
Clean, polish, and a Lawn Chair with a cooler does for me.
I don't like to open my hood to much as people feel it is an invitation to lean all over the fenders.
Watch for people with bicycles walking near your truck!!
Little kids aren't as bad as adults, rthe stuff that gets on kids hands cleans right off cars, but buckle scratches are much
harder to deal.
Even the best sign in the best spot doesn't seem to stop some people from *Getting Too Close*
God invented car shows to test one's patience and ability to stay cool.
Have Fun !
