Sport Custom?

What was the standard equipment on the Sport Custom? Was this above or below the Ranger as far as extra chrome and acessories?
Thanks,Russell

Sport Custom?

The sport custom was a trim level inserted between the custom and ranger series from 70-72. It came with most of chrome trim as standard equipment; narrow chrome side spear, fender and cab trim as well as an anodized Ford trim panel on the tailgate. The interior had the deluxe cluster trim and an upgraded seat, I believe. The wide side chrome was ranger only and woodgrain trim and carpet was reserved for the XLT.

My 1970 Sport Custom doesn't have the side spear trim piece and I believe it has all the original trim. Mine does have the trim along the bottom of the cab and the bed, fender trim, two tone paint, trim that wraps along the back of the cab, "FORD" tailgate trim panel. Another Sport Custom in my area has all the trim mine has as well as the narrow chrome side spear... sharp looking truck, but they repainted it one color and abused it. I think the Sport Custom series is better looking than the Ranger XLT, the wide chrome trim on the XLT is hideous. My uncle has a few 67-76 vintage ford trucks, there is a 1970 F-250 Explorer 2WD that has the narrow chrome spear but doesn't have some of the other chrome pieces, and it also has the bed with the factory toolbox in the passenger side.

Sport Custom?

The upper body "spear" molding was not standard on the Sport Custom but the lower body "racetrack" molding and wheel lip moldings were. The door panels were similar to the Ranger panels from the 1969 model but without the woodgrain insert.

Sport Custom?

I've got a sales brochure from '72 in front of me and here is what it says for the Sport Custom:

"Sport Custom interiors offer (in addition to, or in place of Custom items) extra deep-foam seat cushion, pleated vinyl seat trim inserts with grained vinyl bolsters, color-keyed vinyl door panels with bright moldings, color-keyed floor mats, cigarette lighter, exterior trim includes bright windshield, rocker panel and wheel lip moldings."

Check out my galler...there's a picture of my Sport Custom.
