new shocks

I'm about to install some new shocks and it's been about 20 years since I've done it myself so I need some advice..

Do I need to jack up the side I'm working on to take some pressure of that shock or do I just unbolt them as it sits?

well, on my last truck the shocks that were on there were shot, so i just compressed them out of the way. The new shocks i got were monroe gas magnums, and i was able to compress them by hand to install them...... if you got air tools it will help with the back especially, i needed an air-shisel to get the shock mount bolts out! hope this helps!

Standard shocks can be changed on our trucks as they sit. With coil over heavy duty shocks, you usually have to jack up the rear end, block the frame, and then lower the rear axle, since it is a bear to compress the coil overs.
