well, i do own an '06 6.0, bought it march 12th, built in february. anyway, at 1400 miles, would not start, left me stranded, had to have it towed. replaced an oil pump and a couple of sensors, then at 2740 ,iles, it did it again, back to the shop, kept it four days, could not replicate the problem, always started for them, so they gave it back to me without doing anything. now i am at 3500 miles, so it has not done it again. best mileage i have gotten out of it has been 12.7, sux. my dad's truck is a '96 7.3, been a real good truck, replaced two cam sensors, and now has 95k miles. would not buy another truck, i am brand specific, which might have hurt me. this was the first truck i have ever bought new, and boy, i was happy signing those papers. tow trucks change the whole "new" feeling though. good luck to anyone. after four years production of the 6.0, they are already replacing it, gotta tell you something. go to rvusa.com and look around at all the bashing of the 6.0, and they use their trucks, not to say that none of you do. just my .02 cents.
Sorry - posting guru or not - show me the numbers not gut feeling - I wont tell you people haven't had issues but with the number of 6.0's out there running trouble free day after day I find it hard to believe it's this nightmare everyone wants to make it - and I own a few.
I worked for a telco (no name but it's the second largest in the world) to hear those calling in for service you'd have to ask yourself how we stayed in business - UNTIL you considered the millions of access lines running trouble free. Feel free to buy anything you want, but a new 6.0 with a warranty is a good well engineered engine - opinions are like belly buttons, everyones got one - show me the FACTS to back up the 7.3 hero worshipping and I will - there will always be bad encounters no matter what the motor is.
The only thing I will admit to is the 6.4 sounds like a first year nightmare, twin turbos, 4 egrs and all...
good luck to anyone. after four years production of the 6.0, they are already replacing it, gotta tell you something.
i am sure that ford would have loved to keep the 6.0, but with all the emission changes in 2k7 the extra displacement was needed to bump the horsepower to a competitive number. just look at dodge, they love that 5.9 cummins, but they had to change to a 6.7L . all that just to nudge the horsepower. i wonder what chev is gonna do.
as i started to ask around, i found that in my fathers trucks at work Hydro One, they all use fords, and most of them with the 6.0. they have not had any problems with them yet, and they are really hard on those trucks. but, another one of my buddies has one just for pulling his horse trailer, and has had to have the injectors changed. it might just be a lemon.
