Please excuse my terminology. I just got a clutch rod to floor seal. When I put it on, the rod did not line up with the hole. So I looked under the truck and noticed that the lever that is attached to the rod had two round rubber coated ***** that pivoted as the rod was pushed up and down. They were worn apart and very loose.
Any parts out there to fix this? I cheked some catalogs and found nothing. (BTW My clutch is not smooth. It goes hard at times even though it is fairly new.)
Also my spring is rubbing my new headers.
Any replacement springs for headers?
Kevin, I recently replaced the nylon bushings on the clutch arm linkage on my 71 F-100 4x4.This is the linkage that the clutch rod from the pedal hooks to under the floor pan and then goes on to the clutch arm that comes out of the bell housing. I was able to purchase them from my local Ford dealer. If you cant find them there go to an off road store and ask them where you can find them.Make sure you replace all the cotter pins, nylon bushings and space washers with new while you have it apart. Good luck.
"Nylon Bushings On The Clutch Arm Linkage": O.K. got it! I'll call Ford tomorrow. The wording helps alot. I tried to look this topic up and could not figure how to search it. It is kind of like when I got suspension bushings from the dealer and could not explain properly. I assume it will probably cost me over $30 like all other b.s. dealer ripoffs but will be worth it.
I got the parts (2-plastic ***** and the 4-brass half circle pieces) at dennis-carpenter.com
I have the plastic *****; however, the brass pieces (clutch release shaft bushings(2) #01a-7517) are not on my truck. I have assumed that you press the two halves together through the cylinder and then place the ball through to rest on them. That would explain all of the play in the clutch linkage.
Anybody done this that could verify before I install it?
Kevin, the nylon bushings fit tight into the equalizer bar on my truck.I did install a grease nipple at the center of the equalizer bar to keep the bushings well lubed. Sorry I cant say for sure where the brass bushings go they did'nt give me any with my nylon bushings.
"bowties in the rearvieww mirror"
haven't done the job yet, in fact plan on doing it tomorrow. got to looking in my chilton's manual regarding the job (I like to plan it out) and noticed those bushings don't show up in the diagram, I ordered them because they were listed in the "Dennis Carpenter" catalog, but when I got the packs they say "1940-1948" on them. I thought maybe they sent me the wrong parts so I doubled checked on line and they are listed for 1964-1972 as well. I figured I'd find out where they go doing the disassembly. I'm replacing my hedders tomorrow so I thought I'd tackle it then.
