Wife and I went for a ride deep thru the rural countryside here the other day. We saw a fellow on a 1951 Ford with still good factory gray paint on it , pulling a couple 14 inch plows. Wow, 55 years old and still rollin' in the dirt. Wish I could say the same about myself.
Them old Ford 2Ns,8Ns & 9Ns were excellent tractors as were the Ferguson TO-20 & TO-30s. We still have the original Ferguson TO-30 my father bought new in 1952. It still runs good and still has the original rear tires (they need replaced though).
at our farm we have a 1946 ford 2N, bought new the year my dad was born, still use it for light tasks like pulling wagons, also have a '50 8N with a backhoe & front loader. up until last spring we had a '64 4000. dad traded it for a '66 deere 1020. i would have liked to have kept that one and displayed it at local old equipment shows, ive never seen another one like it. it was the wide front, utility 5-speed. ive seen a few with the narrow row crop and the select-o-speed trans but never a utility 5 speed. grandpa bougt that one new, it was one of the last 6 volt system 4000s. id like to get a later 8N with the side distributor.
My how time flies when ya havin' fun. It seems like a couple of years ago that I rebuilt our 1947 8n. It was born the same year as me. It's still hard to start and 8V batteries are hard to find- usually have a guy down here rebuild the battery. But once running it is a dandy. I use it mostly for a shredder and it pulls a five footer just fine. Can't really imagine life without it- it's always been there. Kinda like home.
Gee, it looks just like our '54 NAA. The headlight mounts are different than ours, which, I think, were farther forward.
Note the OHV engine. '53 Golden or the '54 was the first with OHV, I think.
Wasn't the prior model the 8N, with a flathead? We had a neighbor with one (not sure of the model) but it had FOOTPEGS instead of footboards, and was a flathead with a 3 speed trans. (ours was 4)
