With Ford's EGR strategy thru reflashes and an upgraded (?) EGR Valve...the immediate benefit is not realized on the '05 / '06 as it was on the '03 / '04 engine builds.
The newer strategy keeps the little bugger closed much more now than with previous strategies.
The downside is...it is still a WART. When open it still dumps trash into your already sensitive high tech system potentially presenting a negative effect on down stream components. In addition, when...not if...the EGR Valve sticks open a plethora of ill effects take place.
IMPO: With possible exception to the RMS leaks, the EGR Valve is arguably the single highest warranty hit Ford has taken with this engine.
But, it has performed so well
that it is rumored that there will be multiple EGR Valves on the 6.4....
