EFI Fuel Pump Basics
It looks like the Bronco uses 2 pumps, one that lives with the guage sender in the fuel tank, the second is in-line.
Questions:
Is the in-tank pump "low pressure" and the inline "hi-pressure"? Is the inline pump the one that gets upgraded when using larger injectors and throttle bodies?
Newer cars seem to have tanks that are sealed. When you remove the gas cap you can hear them hiss while the pressure equalizes. Are there any differences in the fuel tank or pumps between Speed Density and Mass Air?
Would I be foolish to plumb the fuel delivery system using Bronco fittings or are aftermarket plumbing systems available?
Your opinions on any of this are appreciated!
Mustangs and other sedans have one pump like you stated. This single pump provides the hi pressure thats needed. Having its suction tube submerged in the tank eliminates the need for a pre-supply pump.
I'm not sure what the factory Broncos fuel pump is rated for but you might wanna check summit, they might have a chart matching Lph (liters per hour) with the amount of horsepower your engine might produce. I can't remember exactly where I saw it. I'm using a Carter electric fuel pump which feeds a Bronco style hi-P fuel pump on my early bronco. You can view pictures of my fuel pumps in my gallery if it will help.
