Why does all the classic trucks shown in the truck magazines seem to be the 1940-1950 styles. I have been rodstoring my 67 f100 for almost a year now and i subscribe to several of these publications. I see almost 20 to 1 fat fender fords or chevys i see a few early 60's fords and chevys and a few 67-72 chevys. Out of the hundreds of trucks featured in the last year I have only seen 1 67-72 ford f100.
So whats your thoughts?????
Amen brother...lets go out there and get some love for the 67-72 trucks....
I have seen an occasional picture in Classic Trucks, IIRC there was a nice white 72 a couple of months ago...
I guess the hobby is still dominated by the pre 67 trucks..though you are right, there are a WHOLE lot of 67-72 trucks on the road...I don't think I drive 5 miles out here in Texas without seeing one...
I saw the white 72 in classic truck magazine and was dissapointed with that truck. I think its a beautiful truck but the wheel base was narrowed in the front for tire clearance with that mustang suspension and i think it didnt look right.
You're preaching to the choir with me. I have noticed that and it dissappoints me some. But then on the other hand, I think they will get to them in time. And I like knowing that my truck is more unique and not something you see in the magazines all the time. But having said that, also being from Texas, I can vouch for the seeing a 67-72 Ford on the road within 5 miles of leaving home. And not to mention lots of them sitting in back yards and such. You just can't kill these trucks, they're almost indestructable. And maybe that's part of the problem as well. They are still in use as work trucks and farm trucks and such and not much effort put into turning them into show trucks. Why restore the truck you drive everyday and think of as only "the old truck". But anyway, I love them and when mine is where I invision it, the magazines will be foolish to not want to have it in there magazine.
My major complaint is the ratio of Chevy's to Fords. They should just rename most of those magazines to something with Chevy in it. 'Custom Chevy', 'Classic Chevy' etc. etc. And they do show 67-72 Chevy's from time to time. So I don't subscribe to them, I'll pick one up off the stand when I see a Ford I like or an article I'm interested in, but not worth a subscription. That's my cent.
Amen to all the above :-) As a matter of fact, I just sent Mr Rizzo (ed of Classic Trucks) a plea to do just what you guys suggested. It appears the 53-6 F100 (not to mention ch**) blinders are firmly installed. Not that I hate those trucks, it's just that after so many articles they all look the same.
tell it brother, not to mention the feature trucks, look at the parts selection available for fords! Its rediculous, so many pages of chevy only vendors make you sick!!! here in southern missouri the old blue ovals are runnin' strong!
you say there are a lot of 67-72 in texas? up here in the rust belt (Northwest Ohio) they are very rare. which is good I guess. Like you say they will probably have their day in the magazines in the future
