Unhappy oil pressure problem

hello every one i am new to this site and have a few questions. my great uncle has recently passed and i bought his 89 f150 it has a 5.0 efi and is throtle body. i know it has sat for the last year. ok, i am having an oil pressure problem. once it shifts into third all oil pressure is lost and rides kinda rough. but as soon as i let off of the gas it will come back. also when it warms up when idle or at stop light or sign same thing no oil pressure. i am also looking to find a vacuum diagram.

you should change the oil and use motorcraft filter if you did not change it already.

get a mechanical gauge and check oil pressure.

let engine get warm so the sludge in engine may come out.

your oil opickup screen is probably clogged.

why do you need vacuum diagram?

Do you know why it sat for the last year? Did it have a head gasket leaking internally? Check dipstick for foam. Engine will probably also knock and pressure will rise and fall with acceleraton and deceleration. It could also be caused by sludge build up on oil pan drain screen. There are available engine cleaners that you add to oil and run for a short time then drain and refill. Be careful to read these additive labels as some of them can be very harmful to gaskets. If the head gasket has been leaking internally for some time, the crankshaft bearings will likely need replacing and maybe even the crankshaft depending how long you've been driving it this way. I hope this isn't the case because it's a large job.

my uncle had some complications so he did not leave the house and if he did he drove his car. i guess the head gasket has been replaced due to prestone in the oil. it has had a few oil changes since. yesterday i ran anti sluge formula through it and did the oil change. the gas that is in it has been in it for a year or so. so i added occtain booster to it. when i did the oil change i used a strong magnet and checked for shavings but there was none. i got it three days ago and have not driven much for fear of ruining it. my girlfriends dad is going to rebuild for me but i am just trying to figure out what is going on. he is a machineist. so now i just have to tow it there.

I too aquired my 93 F150 like you did.

mine was sitting for a while and you would'nt belive everything I have replaced.

there's going to be a ton of "bugs" to work out.

I have discovered Lucus oil products they seem to have helped me a ton.

good luck
hand in there and you will have a GREAT truck

do yourself a favor and drop the oil pan and replace oil pickup screen.

cheaper than a rebuild and you will see by the way it is designed it is probably the culprit.

If your oil pressure is rising and falling, the damage has already been done to the lower half of the engine. I had to rebuild my 91 f-150 for the same reason. The crank shaft bearings were all shot but I was lucky and the crankshaft itself was still okay because I didn't drive it after I noticed the pressure fluctuations. The valves were all reusable. Auto Zone had everything that I needed for the rebuild. Good luck!
