'99 XLT 2WD. Primarily used in the city, BUT we go to the "Big Country" near Abilene,TX 2-3 times/month. We drive some pretty rough dirt roads, alot of washout. Looking for some shocks that give a good ride on the highway, but are good for offroad use as well. Appreciate any recommendations.
I replaced the shocks on two of my Explorers with Bilsteins and I was very happy with them for all round capabilities, highway and limited off road. Others on this forum have recommended the Monroes, both the SensaTracs and Reflex, though I have no personal knowledge. Might want to try a search, this topic has been discussed a number of times.
I have used Monroe SensaTrak on my previous two Explorers with no problems. Better ride than stock shocks. Bilsteins are good, but pricey. As Mason said do a search and see what best meets your needs.
If your 99 X is anything like my 00...just toss on whatever u want to pay for...buy a mouth guard and buckle your safety belt and hang on tight...your in for a ride!!!!haha
I put Bilsteins on a '99 Expedition I owned.
I found them to be great for handling but gave a hard ride which I wasn't happy about.
I'd probably go with KYB.
