License Plate light socket replacement

Had some scumbucket strip the license plate lights off 3 of our Rangers at work. The replacement exterior part is no biggie but FoMoCo wanted over $125 fort eh sockets and harness for the plate lights!

Since the thief cut off the sockets, I checked several aftermarket folks and no one sold the replacement socket. But...I checked Rock Auto and they had a Standard Motor replacement side marker socket/pigtail for the Explorer (Std Motor part # S-93) that fits the plate light ext holder and runs like $6 each.

So if you need one, there is a cheap fix...

I got three from a boneyard for five bucks. Needed cleaning for obvious reasons, then I just replaced the bulbs, plugged them in, and off I went.

That's ridiculous somebody stole your license plate lights though...

No boneyards here

No salvage yards in NYC and I'm sure it was a local body shop guy who did the stealing. Same part fits Explorers, Rangers, 150's so he obviously was too cheap to do his own research.

Figures.

Sad when you have a repair guy who steals parts for his own profit.

Pretty amazing that someone would go to the bother of stealing something so petty. Harldy worth a possible confrontation with an armed citizen protecting their property.

Friend at work had his Toyota SUV's "Fog Lights" stolen three times, in daylight, twice at work. Even the security cameras didn't catch it & once at a private pay to launch boat ramp, where he had put in, just to prevent such mischief from happening. No telling what his insurance agent thought after the third time!!!!!

The dummies cut the wires everytime, even though the electrical connector was less than 6 inches away & easily reached & disconnected & by cuting the harness the thief had to splice them into whatever he was using them on. GO Figure!!!!

I would just love to catch one of those low lifes & break his hands!!!!!

Trouble with "generic" parts is they won;t fit the specific application: IE: The license plate lights on the Explorer and Ranger are designed to take a specific socket and be self sealing. The OEM partt has a nice socketr and O ring gasket while the Standard Motor part is made of a silicone that serves as the socket and the gasket. The socket fits in with a 4 way flanged edge that makes sure its sealed and secure, Std Motor is the same.

Plate lights are an easy ticket item if you are a Cop and are a definate failure during Annual Inspections. Don;t want to deal with either one.

Plus they take a dim view of shooting folks who are not INSIDE the house here in NYC...
