Ah...probably the king of Ranger swaps. Not too difficult. You'll need to notch the airbox on the passenger side, and be careful what headers you run.

I suggest an automatic tranny, though I do dislike them, it's less modifying you will have to do on the truck for a stick, etc. And you don't have to deal with hooking up the clutch.

You'll need a donor vehicle of some sort, an Exploder with the 5.0 is perfect, the engine you need, on practically the same body.

Many places make parts for this swap, such as Advanced Adaptors. You'll need engine mounts, obviously. In terms of difficulty, this swap isn't really. You'll need the engine, tranny, and full computer. This is what makes the donor vehicle so desired, so you can get everything at once. If the Exploder is geared lower than your truck (say 4.10 versus 3.55), you could use the axle for more torque multiplication.

There are plenty of threads on this, search around.

James Duff makes a complete conversion kit, as does advanced adapters like Zack has stated, you'll need a v-8 tranny to handle the torque. Also check your local laws, here in ohio you can only swap in the same year motor, or newer. The only vehicle I know of still using the 5.0 in 2000 was the explorer, I think in 02 is when they switched to the 4.6. If emission's isn't a problem in your area, no worries.

I was on Jegs just now, they have a Ranger V8 swap kit for a 302 into a Ranger, comes with headers, mounts, and an oil filter relocation kit. Not a bad idea to look into.

The 4.6 will not fit without major, let's say, modifications to the Ranger.

I am preparing my 2003 reg cab ranger for a fuel injected 5.0L roller motor. I have the motor together and finished. I am looking for some info on what I might need to do different than I did to my 1987 Ranger which had a 289 carburated engine.
Thanx Terry
