Question Pinto Front End

Hi I was wondering if anyone knew if the Pinto front end is the same as a mustang 2 and how easy is the install?

if im correct, the pinto front end is the same thing as the mustang II, in concept, the cross members are going to be different in length and such.. im not sure if you can just yank out a pinto front end and place it on an effie..

Neigher the pinto or the mustang II are near stout enough for the front of a truck. They are built for a lightweight 4 cyl car, not the sort of stress we put our trucks under.

The Mustang II kits that are available copy the mustang suspension - but with a lot stouter components.

And no, it is not an easy install, whatever you use.

There is a tech artical on this - you should read that first and then come back with any questions you may have.

I didnt think my mustang II install was all that difficult? Sure it would be easier to install lowering leaf springs.. however if you want the IFS.. the mustang II was by far easier than cutting it up for a K-member or volare front end.. imho.

I bow to your experance - bit IFS is a major upgrade that requires thought and skill to do right.

The pinto/must 11 are the same except the mustang did offer a V8. The production crossmember needs to be widen by several inches and the steering rack needs to be widen by the same amount (approx 4 inches). The production pieces will work on a F100 but I would suggest at least a aftermarket crossmember to start.

The 73-80 Pinto and 74-78 MII shared the same crossmember and suspension components. Stay away from the 71-72 Pinto as the suspension components in those years were lighter. BTW, Pinto and MII ball joints and tie rod ends were the same size as a full sized Ford in those years. It was a much heavier duty suspension than people give it credit for. Don't try to use a Pinto or MII crossmember though since it way too narrow for a truck. Aftermarket parts are what you want. It's not as easy as a Volare but it's close...I've done both.
