2001 Escape V6 engine light on

The little orange engine light came on 2 days ago, so i had autozone hook it up to there scanner and he said it had to do with the egr He unpluged it before i could see the code. I'll have to take it back tomorrow and re-hook it up for the code. It has 113,000 miles on it if anyone needs to know. Anything common?

Chances are pretty good that the code is a P0401 and you'll need a new DPFE sensor to fix it.
Don't let them sell you an EGR valve without some diagnosis. They seem to like to sell those.
I'd get the new DPFE at your dealer as Ford has come out with a new improved part.

You are doing the same thing AGAIN without diagnosis.

PLEASE! DO NOT fall for the temptation of swapping out parts on a whim or you will become frustrated AND lighter in the wallet.

I was told and i have also read if it pulls the P0401 code it could be only two things. DPFE sensor or the EGR . I did the cheaper one first and it didnt work. If the EGR dont work either......well then, i dont know.

The EGR valve is vacuum-controlled by a solenoid. Maybe the solenoid is sticking or there is a leak in the associated vacuum hoses. This is the first case I've heard of where it wasn't the DPFE causing a P0401 or P0402 fault. I hope that you didn't get a bad replacement.

I was driving today and the light went off by itself. Its been off all day now and i've driven about 60miles. What could this be? I picked up the EGR today also from a/z but i havent put it on yet. Do you think i should return it?

Thanks for the replys

I don't know what Autozones return policy is, but I wouldn't install the EGR valve if the light went out. Keep it for a few days and if your fault light doesn't come back on, return it before the return period expires. Do you experience any driveability issues when the light comes on? If you don't, I would guess that it is a false fault caused by an erroneous DPFE output. Make sure that the electrical connector fits tightly and that the contacts are clean. It wouldn't hurt to put a little dielectric grease on the contacts as well.

Please do not

1) Hijack/resurrect old threads without good reason and an explanation

2) Post the same thing in multiple threads.

One post in the most appropriate place will get the job done. You already have a new thread...
