I ahve an 87 f150 4x4 , this weekend I am going to repalce the front wheel bearings, This is my first time on a ford. I am wondering does the ford front axle have the wheel nut with "teeth" or is it a plain nut. Any idea on the size also?
shoudl be a ttb dana 44, it will have a nut with slots for a socket with "teeth", you should be able to pick up the socket you need at any parts store, just ge tone for a dana 44
You can try to rent the "spindle nut socket" from a parts store, I know we rent em for $6/day. I ended up buying one though (even though i could rent it for free ) just cause i use it enough, and its more convenient that way. I think they're around $20
Okay Thanks, I have called around they all seem to say just bring the nut in with and match it up, That makes a lot sense!!!!!!! Good help is just hard to find
So you asked them for the socket to remove the spindle nuts and they told you to bring the nut in to match it up? Did you mention to them that you need the socket to remove the nut in the first place? It's also possible to remove the nuts with a screwdriver and a hammer. Just put the screwdriver in one of the slots and tap it counterclockwise to loosen it. That method tends to chew up the nut a little, but it would be a good way to get one off to bring down to match up with the socket.
