Talking What tires to run

I have an 02 f-350 SD PSD 4-door short bed and I currently have a set of 38.5 ground hawgs on it (hate them).. I am looking to go to a new set of tires. Here is my issues. I like my wheels (16.5) and I am not looking to xchange them. This truck is an everyday driver that also pulls loads, just cars and stuff around. But I am not willing to go to a hiway tread. This truck does go off road. So I am looking into the radial iroks. I found a set of 39.5/13.50/16.5's that I like. But I wish they were a little wider..... I also found Pit Bull Rocker Extreme off road Tires. and they are pretty cheap and wide enough but I dont know anything about them. The wheelin we do is sand and mud, not much racks around here and my truck would suck at it anyway. so does anyone have any advice?... I would apreciate it... I want something that will wear for a while, perform, and looks good to, oh yeah and really cheap... good 1... ha ha ha

When I was doing research on what tire to run on my chevy, I asked some similar questions, at www.pirate-4x4.com and they have a wealth of information on rockcrawling and tech in that department. They told me the IROKS are too soft a tire for virtually any street time, they just wear out pretty fast on the road. I asked about TSLs, and what everbody kinda summed up is to go with SX radials. From what they told me they seem to hold up best on the street, and they are more aggressive then a general mud terrain obviosly being a true super swamper. So i have a question for you, when you get your new tires, what are you doing with your old ones? I havent bought tires for the chevy yet, and i need a set of rollers in about that size, so i can finish trimming fenders accordingly. So if no one has their claim on them, let me know what yuo would want for them, and maybe we could work out a deal on them.

If i was you i would look at the Parnelli Jones Dirt Grips 38X15.50R16.5 and are Load Range E. The tread pattern is pretty aggressive and they look good. When i still had my 16.5" Welds i was running the Mickey Thompson Baja Radials 39.5x15.5x16.5 and they were a sick tire(check these out aswell). They lasted pretty long for a tire that size. Hope this helps, i had a lot of trouble trying to find a new tire for my 16.5's and ended up getting some 17" American Racing Wheels so i could fit on some 40" X terrains and beable to fit some 39" BFG Baja racing tires when these wear out.

Cool 16.5 rims

I cant seem to find any mickeys that have a 16.5 rim, even on Mickeythompson.com.... I guess I could sell my wheels and get some more but I hate to do that becasue I have a matching spare (well its a 15 rim) and friggin ford and there stupid metric bolt pattern...... but thats another story......... as for my old tires one has almost completely come apart, the tread seperated and one was ruined in the wreck, another has a hole in the side wall, so basicly as for the whole set I have one good hawg and then that 15 inch swamper that I keep for a spare... Sorry thats not much help... where are you at? I could tell you about some stuff I found on the net in the last couple of weeks

Why do you hate the ground hawgs? I was considering getting a set but i am on the fence about them. I currently have Interco Trxus STS All terrains and i put 15000 miles on them and they did not have much thread on them when i bought the truck. They make BFG AT in a 14.50 width????

I run the Pro-Comp X-terrians and like them pretty good. They have right at 45K on them right now and I am only starting to look into buying new tires. I however want to go to the highway tread. I have been recommended to the Toyo ATs or the Pro-Comp ATs.

You may also want to look at the Toyo MTs they are pretty beefy and are supposed to have good tread life.

This is just my $.02

Talking

Well I just talked to the dude at the local 4x4 shop and asked him about radial / bias. he told me that the bias would last longer and the radial rides better. I would have thought just the oposite.... well with my lift I am not super worried about ride. I mean when they are this big they dont ride that good.... Look at the bright side when you got that little honey in the side saddle a rough ride is kind of entertaining...... I think my truck would look funny with 36 or smaller... thats another problem if you look in the gallery it looks small with 38.5's... I think I have my mind made up I think I am going to go with 42 x 16 x 16.5's.... I will have to cut my fenders a little but they are getting fender flares anyway (someday)..... I guess it doesnt make much sense with deisel prices and most other things but hey, if you dont go big... why go at all.. plus I mean look your talking about 2 inches max as far as getting to my fenders... and the fenders are already a little crushed...... OOOOOOPS!!!! THANKS FOR ALL THE INPUT... I STILL WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM SOMEONE THAT HAS RUN SOMETHING THIS BIG IN RADIAL AND BIAS...... KEEP THE RUBBER SIDE DOWN.... OUT

if you drive on the street at all, youll really want radial tires, with my mil 36's that are bias, they are pretty chitty, steering is little more sloppy, tires get flat spots, much like a tractor tire, if they sit for too long... Its really worth the extra money for radials if it sees road time. Now if it was all trail, and only drive the truck to get to the trail i would say bias, but if your planning on driving it around town, youll wish you had radials. If you havent already, check out www.pirate4x4.com They really have alot of answers on just about anything rockcrawling, which leads to alot of information about suspension, tires, axles, stuff like that. Ive learned alot there.
