I agree with JTHARVEY, I remember something about IH/Navistar stating you can run 1250 all day long just don't go over that. I think you can go over that but just for seconds. Sled pullers get up to 1500+ during their pulls.
True. Of course, if their engines don't live very long, they are less concerned than we are.
Drag racers are the extreme case - the top fuel engines are self-destructing as they cross the finish line. If they self-destruct too soon, they lose. If they aren't self-destructing, they aren't making enough power, and they lose. Those guys change pistons more frequently than most other types of drag racers change spark plugs!
Fun stuff, too. I wish I could afford to play with such things.
In some instances trucks can even see more. When Lott's truck (Snow White) was on the dyno at BTS, the EGT's would peg out at over 1600!! But, this was for just a few seconds. With the proper internal components, the EGT "redline" can also go higer.
Thanks for all the replys, I guess I was under the assumption that I shouldnt go over 1200 and have always let out of it at that temp. And dont worry I am not pulling a trailer on the high setting. My exhaust is 4 inch turbo back ATS system. The temp probe is pre turbo. I guess I will have to see what happens if I keep my foot in it a little longer to see if it tops out. I will tell you one thing this Dp tuner is awesome.
