Spectre makes the pieces to make up a custom intake kit. The tubing is a 3". They even offer a mockup kit for $10 with a $10 mail-in rebate when you purchase the pieces and filter to make a system. Here is a link -

I built this for about 20 dollars and a Saturday afternoon.

40 sq. in. front scoop
4" diameter hose

Works well.

I have about 300 dollars in this exhaust, it also works well.

you're so fancy dave with your stove pipe and all....

I used abs drainpipe I happened to have laying around (obviously the type without holes in it).
that and 10 min with my sawzall, and it made a pretty good difference, especially in the egt dept.
I prefered the drain pipe because I can yank it out in 5seconds to work on something.

Two screws and everything under the hood is out on mine well.
Plus when I am plowing snow or driving in heavy snow, I just disconnect the stock flex line and I am good to go in 30 seconds time.

PS; that is not stove pipe, it is galvanized HVAC duct work.

I also noticed my EGT dropped about 200 degrees. I have to stay in it fairly hard with a fair sized load to get to 1200 degrees now. A big hill and a big load and it will still get hot enough I have to start backing out though. Plus my turbo don't suck the filter restriction gauge near as bad as it used to.

hey dave i noticed on the truck there is 2 areas where the coresuppost is reinforced like 2legs running up the core suppost. Now I was wodnering did you cut the hole for your scoop to run between them? also how wide and how high is the front of your scoop where the air enters in.
thanks,
Jimmy

I took the drivers side radiator support off and file 13ed it.
Then I took a 4" grinder with a cut off wheel on it and trimmed the radiator flange off on the outside and inside, but left the top mounting hole.
Then I used 1/4" x 1" x about 4" piece of flat strap iron to make a new support coming down from the top of the radiator shell.
Holds the radiator very well, you will never get your truck in twists and binds like I get mine in every day. I have had no trouble in about 4 years since I did mine.

The front of the scoop is 4" wide and 10.5" tall, but reduces to 3" x 9" to go through the radiator shell by the radiator.
Then I took a 6" round vent pipe about one foot long over to the anvil with a couple of hammers and a set of metal tongs and aviation snips.
After a little argument with the pipe, which I won because I had a bigger hammer, the pipe is now 6" round on one end and 3" x 9" rectangular on the other end. The rectangular end is also cut on an angle so it clears the power steering pump pulley when I slide the 6" round to 4" round reducer over the pipe.
Then a 4" single wall adjustable ell slides over the reducer on the small end, it is almost straight the way I have it twisted.
The stock 4" flex duct then slides over the ell and onto the air cleaner.

The front scoop is made out of one piece of furnace plenum flat stock, a bunch of cuts and a hand full of pop rivits.
I looked at all my furnace duct supply catalogs trying to find a premade scoop, but nothing is close to what it needs to be.

I have my radiator shell out laying on the ground right now and everything is apart. If it ever stops raining I will take some pictures of all the pieces and how it goes together.

Since it is all apart, I may even see if I can come up with a better design while the engine machine work is being done. If it ever stops raining, 8 days of rain so far and I can do nothing to my engine till it stops.
