I am curious about 390 police interceptor intakes. I mean are they iron, alum? what are some casting numbers? anyone have any pics or know any links to pics? I know about the c6ae-h and c7ae-b 428 pi intakes but nothing about 390 pi intakes.
There was no real purpose designed 390 PI intake. All were the std iron intakes. Casting number depended on the year of the engine. Pretty much what ever the std iron 4bbl intake was found it's way onto the cop cars. These were not high dollar cars with fancy parts in most cases. But down and dirty but good performing. Also because of the fleet pricing Ford needed to keep costs down to meet local and federal budgets to get the contracts. I'm sure over the years a few "persuit vehicles" were special ordered with some HIPO goodies. Even a select few of the old CT state trooper LTDs were rumored (by the old timer cops) to have 427's in place of the 390 and 428's. They even have kept some of the old crusiers here in CT in one of the state police garages. Both 390 and 428 Fords and the 440 Mopars to name a few. And yes the 428 PI's in the police cars used the aluminum PI intakes. They were used until late 68 when the cast iron CJ was deemed as a cheaper and more cost effective replacement. G.
The PI intakes were alot better than standard intakes.....that can be seen just by looking at them. DCS show them right on there sight. If you have one Good if you want to buy one an RPM ebock will perform the same and be cheaper.
