I've searched through the forums archives for over an hour now. I have had my 88 Bronco parked for over 2 1/2 yrs now. I put in a new battery and bingo - she fired right up 1st crank even with the old gas - AMAZING
I've run into a rush to get her back on the road due to my other truck being in the shop until the 2nd week of June.
I cannot find my Chiltons manual and am needing to replace the oil pump. Can someone please tell me what all I need to remove to get this accomplished ? Time is of the essence.
Thanks in Advance,
JohnnyO
ps - there used to be a guy named Steve from Tennessee on this Forum ? His tagline was "Walk softly and carry a big 6" or something like that. I bought some wheels from him several years ago. Is he still around ?
You have to unbolt the 2 engine mounts and and the transmission mounts and hoist the engine up high enough so that when you pull the pan you can slid it out. It's not fun but it can be done. I had to change the gasket but not the pump, others can probably provide more tips than me.
If I was going to go to the trouble of replacing the oil pan gasket I would also replace the oil pump while I had the pan off. Whether it was good or not. Too much of a hassle to get the pan off not to do everything while it's off.

Replacing the gasket is much, much easier than replacing the oil pump. It's considerably more work to get the motor jacked up far enough to reach the pump.
Some people have replaced the pump, and said that it's actually easier to pull the motor. Whether that's true or not, I don't know. But it should give you some idea of how much work you're in for.
Steve83 is no longer around. He said that he took a new job and wouldn't have time to post much on here anymore, but I think FTE was just taking up too much of his time. I'd log in, and the first 20 posts on several forums all had his name on them as the last poster. He'd spend hours on here every day helping people, and I think it got to be too much. Who has that kind of time? But MAN, that guy knew Ford trucks.
I actualy didn't even remove the pan, I was pressed for time so I only raised the engine high enough so the pan was down where I could reach up there and install the new gasket.
