hey mike i had an 86 ford bronco with a brand new sending unit....sumtimes it wouldnt work but i found that if i wiggled the wires that plug into the sending unit it would start giving me a reading...but did your speed and temp go out at the same time? or seperately...we need to establish that first...it could just be a fuse...or you actual temp sensor needs to be replaced...the 4.9 is the Inline 6 correct?

well u might have had a short have you recently done some wiring? new radio? lights? do you have dual exhaust? some people put in exhaust and dont think about their wiring along their drivers side....heat DOES take a toll on wires...it sounds like a short possibly....
