hey guys
stupid question
i have a 2002 f-350 7.3 PSD and the whole exhaust has been changed to stright piped, but i havent touched the Turbo downpipe. the truck doesnt sound like a normal 7.3 straight piped so could there be any baffles or anything in the downpipe? If not, what else could be making it sound different?
no baffles in the downpipe. what do ya want it to sound like? perhaps you have heard one that has larger pipes, that will make it sound different. the larger pipes also get the heat from the exhaust out quicker (better for the engine).
yes the stock downpipe is 3" , and most aftermarket ones are 4". this means there is less restriction, and also less backpressure. the pistons do not have to push as hard to get the exhaust out of the cylinders. this also lowers temp's because it is less restrictive. the larger pipe will also have a MUCH deeper sound to it, alot throatier. i have heard a straight piped stock system and it sounds a whole lot different than my 4" straight with 6" tip, which almost sounds like a 5".
