New 350 dually 2006 with 600 miles when stopped and engine running at operating temp smells just like burning tires inside and outside the truck. No smell when under way. The smell has been there since I brought it home on Sat. It has lessened somewhat, but still pretty bad. When I lift the hood, it is coming from the engine compartment. I thought it might be new engine stuff burning off, but after the weekend trip of 400 miles, I would of thought it would of burned off by now. Is this normal, could it be the belt or the radiator hose breaking in. I can't get to the dealer til next Tues. Anyone know what this is all about. Not diesel smell! No smoke. Should I worry. All gauges normal no warning lights. Thanks
I have an '06 F-250 Lariat with 700 miles and the same rubber smell in mine is getting less noticable as mileage racks up. I just wrote it up to the newness of the vehicle, unless it would get worse and it isn't, it's less noticable every day. By the way, I absolutely love this truck !!!!!!!!
I had that smell in my 2005 F250 for about the first 1800 miles. It finally went away but came back again when I changed the oil at 3K miles. The truck now has 10K on it and the smell has been gone for about 4K miles...
I have on 03 and when I bought it, no smell. I had to have the serp belt replaced and it came with a new smell. I likened it to a skunk, but I guess it does smell a little like rubber. 1K on the new belt and the smell is off/on, but not nearly as bad as when new.
