Cool Steering Stabalizer

I've noticed my steering is stiff and un-responsive ever since I hit a rock in a creek Sunday. I looked at my Stabalizer Shock and its bent up to the Steering Cross-Over Bar and some Fluid around it. No leaks of oil or coolant anywhere above it. Fluid is sorta green/black and doesn't smell of coolant. I think it's busted, shaft is bent some too. Has anybody replaced the factory Steering Shock w/ somethin else and gotten good results ? I don't wanna settle for cheap, somethin nice and smooth. Or perhaps a crow-bar will straiten her out for now.

i would love for you to try the donahoe racing steering stabilizer and let me know what you think about it. just kidding. when i bought my leveling kit i thought about getting one but the level kit cost 7 bills and if i didnt like how the new shocks/springs rode then the SS would likely be a bad idea. BTW, love the DR stuff. excellent ride improvement.

Do you have DR shocks all the way around minus the Stabalizer ? I hear they have great shocks and struts...perhaps I'll pick one up tonight at the local goodyear.

Try replacing it with a Rancho OEM stabilizer. The only way to get a DR Signature Stabilizer (which are re-badged Bilstein 5100's) is to buy the DR dual-stabilizer kit. The DR shock itself is too round in diameter to fit in the OEM location. And the DR dual kit is an expensive piece. If you want to see the difference between the stock stabilizer and the DR shock, take a look in my gallery under the Parts Pic's Gallery. There's a pic of a stock one sitting on top of a DR. Don't get me wrong, if you're willing to drop the money the DR kit is great. But if you're just looking to replace a broken stock stabilizer, go with a much less expensive, but still pretty good, Rancho replacement.

I think we may be talking about 2 different Rancho systems. The one I'm talking about is the OEM replacement that bolts into the OEM bracket, P/N RS5410. And it costs about $45.00.

The $150 one was part RS9788 somethin....I'll just pick up the Monroe tomorrow after noon. I took a good look at my current stabalizer...definately bent at the shaft, definately.

The RS9788 is the upgrade for lifted trucks with tires up to 35". I put that on my truck and it was a huge improvement over the worn out stock one. It's a beefier setup than the oem and it comes with a relocation bracket.

Haven't met a Monroe I liked.

Shock, I mean

Except for some air shocks I got for an '82 LTD wagon, any Monroes I installed in my own cars or others, all seemed to be the same as stock. Weak...

Against my advice, over and over again, my brother-in-law put Monroes in his '96 Chevy Suburban. He noticed NO difference between them and the stock ones that had 90K miles on them.

I'm not saying all Monroes are wimpy, just the ones I or others have gotten.

I have no experience with their steering stabilizers, but ... is it yellow?

All Monro Shocks and Struts I've seen are black w/ the Yellow Trades Markings. The part will be in in a few hours.
